The Acer Aspire TC-885-UA91 is a solid budget desktop computer with a speedy 9th-generation Intel Core i3 processor, 8GB of memory, 512GB solid-state drive, a bit of room for expansion, and it comes with Di-Fi (a feature that’s becoming common even in budget tower PCs). It offers everything you need in a general-purpose PC, plus the extra features make for a great choice in the long haul. For all these reasons, it’s among our recommended budget desktop PCs.

Design

The new Aspire TC-885 measures and sports the same design as its predecessor from last year, the Acer Aspire TC-885-ACCFLi3O. It measures 13.4 by 6.4 by 13.7 inches (HWD), and has the same black painted steel and plastic enclosure. It carries forward the signature V-Shaped orange LED surrounding the power button on the upper front, next to the Acer logo.

Below the power switch is a midline silver line running from the top to the bottom. On the lower flank, there is an Aspire logo, while the other half holds a tray-loading DVD drive and easy-access I/O ports. You get a few slots for future upgrades including: PCIe x16, PCIe X1, one M.2 for SSD and one M.2 for WLAN/Bluetooth slots, but the system is still fully equipped and usable out of the box.

Connectivity comes via one USB 3.1 Type C port, one USB 3.1 port, mic/headphone jacks and an SD card reader, all on the front. The back panel holds two more USB 3.1 ports, 4 USB 2.0 ports, two HDMI ports and one VGA port. Wireless connectivity comes in way of 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.0. Acer includes a wired keyboard and mouse into the package.

Performance

Performance is a highlight, since the system comes with an Intel Core i3-9100 processor with Intel UHD Graphics 630 built in. Acer pairs it with 8GB of memory and 512GB SSD, making it a reliable daily-use desktop PC. The newer 9th-generation processor maxes at 4.0Hz, making it a better performer over most Core i3 desktops around. If you need more power, perhaps for office work, Acer offer the same base model but with a Core i5 CPU and 12GB of RAM in the Acer Aspire TC-885-UA92.

Both of these machines will suffice for daily productivity, and you can pair them with 21.5-inch, ultra-thin Acer SB220Q bi monitor, for a better experience. In fact, with this monitor, you are getting a workspace PC that looks expensive, comes at almost half the price of a full-fledged All-In-One desktop PC.

Essentially, you will be fine using the Acer Aspire TC-885-UA91 for at least the next six years for day-to-day tasks like editing in office apps, media consumption, and web-based browsing. Its gaming scorecard is very blurred compared to gaming PCs like our Editors’ Choice budget gaming PC, the CyberpowerPC Gamer Xtreme GXiVR8060A7, but you should be able to play games like Minecraft smoothly at low resolution.

technerati

The Acer Aspire TC-885-UA91 is a great choice for anyone looking to buy a desktop for under $500, especially if you want the option to upgrade your PC in the future. It has a newer 9th-generation processor, enough RAM and fast SSD storage, and even includes Wi-Fi connectivity.

Is there a better alternative?

In the same base model, the company offers the Acer Aspire TC-885-UA92 with a 9th Generation Intel Core i5-9400 processor, more RAM (12GB) and the same speedy 512GB storage. On just about all the other factors, the two desktops are effectively equals, but the higher CPU and more memory means you can multitask more with the Aspire TC-885-UA92, thus, it gives more flexibility for office work.

If you need to play modern games and work at the same time, the CyberpowerPC Gamer Xtreme GXiVR8060A7 offers an Intel Core i5-9400F CPU, more storage space (120GB SSD + 1TB hard drive), superb connectivity and a dedicated Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 (6GB RAM) graphics card.

Should you buy it?

Yes. If you’re on a budget and need a reliable desktop PC for daily use, the flexibility of the Acer Aspire TC-885-UA91 makes it an excellent choice.
