Xbox vs PlayStation, Which gaming console should you buy next?

Xbox vs PlayStation

The PlayStation and the Xbox video game consoles offer significant improvements over and break compatibility with the previous generation consoles in their respective families. Both the PS and Xbox offer souped-up graphics processors, more memory than previous systems, redesigned controllers, and all-in-one access to “apps” like Amazon Prime, Netflix, Hulu, and NFL Network, among others.

Xbox

Xbox is a video gaming brand created and owned by Microsoft of the United States. It represents a series of video game consoles developed by Microsoft, with three consoles released in the sixth, seventh, and eighth generations, respectively. It was released on November 15, 2001, in North America, with the launch of the original Xbox console. The original device was the first video game console offered by an American company after the Atari Jaguar stopped sales in 1996. Microsoft’s second console, the Xbox 360, was released in 2005. The Xbox One has been released in 21 markets in total, with a Chinese release in September 2014. The head of Xbox is Phil Spencer, who succeeded former head Marc Whitten in late March 2014. The brand also represents applications (games), streaming services, and an online service by the name of Xbox Live.

PlayStation

PlayStation (PS) is a gaming brand that consists of four home video game consoles, as well as a media centre, an online service, a line of controllers, two handhelds and a phone, as well as multiple magazines. It is created and owned by Sony Interactive Entertainment since December 3, 1994, with the launch of the original PlayStation in Japan. Its successor, the PlayStation 2, was released in 2000. Sony’s next console, the PlayStation 3, was released in 2006. Sony’s latest console, the PlayStation 4, was released in 2013, becoming the fastest selling console in history.

Let’s see the difference between these two most popular video game consoles.

Xbox vs PlayStation

  • The PS4 plays PS3 games via PlayStation Now, which allows you to stream hundreds of last-gen titles.

  • Xbox One is also the exclusive home of EA Access, which lets you play an ever-growing library of EA games.

  • You can play older games on PS4, each scaled up to 1080p with earnable trophies and support for features such as Share Play and Remote Play.

  • Xbox One has a much better track record when it comes to supporting cross-platform play, allowing you to play games like Minecraft, Fortnite, Ark: Survival Evolved, Rocket League and Astroneer with friends on other platforms such as Switch and PC.

  • The newest PS4 has a slight edge in terms of sheer smallness, though it lacks an optical input for high-end gaming headsets.

  • Unlike PS4, Xbox One supports Dolby Atmos, allowing folks with compatible home theatre products to enjoy the immersive spatial sound, and will soon support Dolby Vision for improved HDR quality.

  • PS4 owners also have the option of opening up their consoles to swap in a new 2.5-inch or SATA drive.

  • The PS4 controller is the only one that supports micro USB charging right out of the box — Xbox One owners will need to rely on AA batteries or buy a charging kit.

  • The Xbox One is also the only console that features Kodi, a highly popular media server app that lets you access any movies, TV shows, images or songs you have stored on any of your devices around the house.

  • PS4 is the only of the two consoles to currently support virtual reality.

  • Xbox One features a few other notable music services such as SoundCloud, Pandora, and Deezer.

  • PS has the edge in terms of resolution. PS offers better resolution for many titles.

  • Xbox is the superior entertainment machine. The system has the unique ability to transmit your cable box TV signal, allowing you to quickly switch between playing a game and watching a show.

  • The Xbox One X is clearly the newest console with few discounts available. The PS4 Pro, however, is now two years old and is, therefore, easier to pick up at a reduced price.

  • The Xbox One offers backward compatibility for a select number of games, though that number has grown substantially since the feature debuted in 2015.

  • When it comes to playing old games on the PS4, you currently only have one option: PlayStation Now. PSNow is a streaming service that allows you to play PS3 games.

  • The PS4 supports DTS HD.
